How a Leeds enquiry gets decided.

Before anybody rings anybody, an assistant has read the field and settled on a shortlist. These panels replay the shape of it.

Best electrician in Leeds for an EV charger install?

Searching

Reading reviews, accreditations and recent jobs…

Checking which firms actually cover the LS postcodes…

Weighing the evidence each website provides…

The answer

So who would you actually go with?

Answer

Three names come back, each with a reason attached: clear services, consistent details, reviews that hold up.

Whether yours is one of the three was decided before the question was even asked.

“Who are the best electricians in Leeds for an EV charger installation?”

Illustrative of how the assistants behave rather than a recording. Ask one about your own trade in Leeds and see who it names.

What GEO actually is

People stopped scrolling. They started asking.

A growing number of people no longer scan ten blue links. They ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google’s own AI who to use, and they take the answer at face value. If your business is not in that answer, you were never in the running.

GEO, sometimes called AEO, is the work of being findable, understandable and recommendable to those systems. It overlaps with SEO but it is not the same job, and it rewards different things.

Being ranked first is no use if the answer never mentions you.

How it works

How a business gets picked by an answer engine.

Three stages, in order. Each one is worth doing on its own, and each one makes the next one work harder.

A fast, well-structured website built by Halizona
01

Make your business readable to a machine

An answer engine can only recommend what it can read. That means a site it can crawl, pages that answer questions directly, and structured data describing what you actually are.

  • Crawlability
  • Structured data
  • Clear answers
  • Site speed
Reviewing how a business is described across the web
02

Leave no doubt what you do

Models work on entities. If your name, location, services and category say different things in different places, you become harder to recommend with confidence.

  • Entity clarity
  • Consistent NAP
  • Service pages
  • Google Business Profile

03

Get vouched for by the sources they read

Answer engines lean on third parties: reviews, directories, press, forums. Being well regarded in the places they read matters more here than it does in classic SEO.

  • Reviews
  • Mentions & citations
  • Directories
  • Content worth quoting

Businesses already being found this way

Search work that is now feeding both Google and the AI answers built on top of it.

Bond Brickwork bricklayers on the Swarcliffe development in Leeds Brickwork · Housing developments · Search since 2018

Bond Brickwork

Swarcliffe, on the east side of Leeds, is one of the developments Bond laid brick on, and it is exactly the kind of detail an assistant leans on. The search work keeps those projects, capabilities and places written down where a machine can read them back.

RB Electrical on a commercial electrical job in West Yorkshire Electrical · EV charging · Five years of organic work

RB Electrical

An electrician who wants EV charging work has to say so somewhere a machine will find it. Each of RB’s services holds its own page with its own proof, which is why the enquiries have kept arriving, week in, week out, for five years.

Educamus Tuition

Tuition is bought by anxious parents asking careful questions, and increasingly they ask an assistant first. Educamus answers those questions on pages built to be quoted, and the first year of that approach ended with turnover twice where it started.

What gets tracked

Watched over time, reported straight.

Five things we keep eyes on for a Leeds client, each with its own honest caveat.

  • More of the right people finding you

We check whether AI answers actually name your business on the questions your customers ask. Be aware these answers shift constantly, so it is a point-in-time snapshot rather than a rank tracker, and we report it that way.

  • More quality enquiries

People who arrive from an AI recommendation often arrive further along, because something has already vouched for you. We measure how many of those turn into a real conversation.

  • More conversions

An AI can send someone to you, but your site still has to close it. If people are landing and leaving, the fix is the page rather than the visibility.

  • More revenue

The number that decides whether any of it was worth doing. We tie the work back to what it brought in rather than to how often a chatbot said your name.

  • More room to grow

Being the business an AI reaches for compounds. It is a position that is hard for a competitor to buy their way into quickly.

Common questions

Marketing in Leeds, answered.

What is GEO?

Generative Engine Optimisation. It is the work of getting your business found, understood and recommended by AI search and answer engines, rather than only by a traditional list of links.

Some people call it AEO, answer engine optimisation. They mean much the same thing.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No. Nobody can, and anyone telling you otherwise is guessing or selling. There is no confirmed method that forces an AI to cite a particular business, and the answers change constantly.

What we can do is remove every reason for it not to recommend you: make you readable, make what you do unambiguous, and make sure the sources these systems lean on speak well of you.

Is this just SEO with a new name?

There is real overlap. A site that is fast, crawlable and clearly written helps in both. But they are not the same job, and ranking first on Google does not mean you get named in the AI answer above it.

GEO leans harder on being clearly defined as an entity and on what third parties say about you, rather than on classic ranking factors alone.

How do you even measure it?

Honestly, and with caveats. We test the questions your customers would actually ask, across the main assistants, and record whether you are named and what gets cited alongside you.

That is a snapshot rather than a rank tracker. These answers vary by wording, location, device and account, and they move week to week. Anyone showing you a tidy GEO ranking chart is overstating what the data can support.

Will adding schema markup do it?

It helps a machine parse what you are, so it is worth doing properly. But there is no confirmed schema trick that guarantees a citation. Treat anyone selling one with suspicion.

Is it worth doing yet, or is it too early?

It is worth doing if your customers are already asking AI for recommendations, which in most sectors they now are. Most of the work also improves your normal search visibility, so it is rarely wasted either way.

If your website is technically broken or you have no reviews, we will tell you to fix that first. Those are the foundations this is built on.

Are you based in Leeds?

No. Halizona is based in Halifax, West Yorkshire, around half an hour from Leeds. We work with Leeds businesses regularly, and this is one of the few areas of marketing that genuinely does not need us in the room.

Who will I be dealing with?

David, who runs Halizona, from the first conversation onwards. None of this gets handed to a white-label supplier.

What does it cost?

It depends on the state of your site and how well defined your business already is online, which is why we start with a free chat rather than a price list. We always and only do the work that makes the biggest difference to your business.
